How To Work From Home Doing Medical Billing And Coding?

I see a lot of ads for this. How are people doing medical billing and coding from home? If I sign up for one of these courses will I really be able to get a job once I'm certified?
Also, how much does billing and coding pay?
Faith's Answer
I feel that much of the advertising for billing and coding jobs from home is somewhat misleading.
You can do billing and coding from home but only after working in a doctor's office or hospital setting for several years. In other words, for people who are already working in this field, telecommuting is an option.
You can train for a medical billing and coding career online. But after obtaining your certification, you would have to work on-site for 3-5 years in order to develop the experience and the professional contacts you would need in order to be able to make the transition to working from home.
If you need to train at home and begin working from home from the start, a Medical Transcription Job would be a better choice.
Medical billing salaries vary depending on the type of certification and the position. A coder might make $25,000 right out of school. An experienced coder who owns her own business might make $100,000 per year.
