Freelance Writing Employment
Writing On The Internet

In the first half of this article, I'll tell you where you can find freelance writing employment opportunities. Later, I'll give you some freelance writing tips and talk about the kind of income you can expect to make writing on the internet.

The first thing to remember when pursuing freelance writing gigs is that the search engines rule the web. And the search engines adore unique content. That means they want every page on all the millions of websites to be different from every other web page. That puts tremendous pressure on web publishers.

In order to keep their sites current in the eyes of Google, Yahoo, MSN and the like; they've got to keep adding fresh content. Some write all their own articles, but many more prefer to outsource this work. This creates an unstoppable stream of freelance writing opportunities.

Publishers post projects on sites like elance.com, guru.com, or odesk.com. Writers bid on the freelance writing assignments they are interested in. Freelancers can also post their profiles on the sites and let publishers who are looking for someone to work with long term find them that way.

Freelance Writing Tips

  1. Because most people find web pages by searching for certain words or phrases you'll have to keyword optimize your articles. You may already know how to do this. If not, it isn't difficult to learn.

The keywords will be given to you by the publisher. You place the words (the spelling must be exact) into certain spots within the article like the title and headlines. Also, be sure to use the keyword a certain number of times (2-3 for every 500 words).

  2. Remember what I said about the search engines loving original content. Do not submit a rewritten article to a web publisher if they have requested a unique article. They have software to catch this and it will ruin your reputation. If they ask you to rewrite an article they provide, that's different.

  3. Nobody likes content produced by means of an article spinner. It doesn't read well to either humans or search engines and is therefore worthless. You will not make consistent sales or be able to charge much if you use one.

  4. Many publishers post freelance writing assignments consisting of multiple articles. Be very sure you are able to produce the required number of pages in the allotted time. The first three articles on migraines may go quickly. Writing the remaining four may make your head hurt. If you miss the deadline, you will likely lose any future freelance writing work that publisher would have given you.

    Freelance Writing Income

Freelance writing income is variable to put it mildly. As a rank beginner you can expect to be paid between $5-$10 per article. It seems that everyone and his cousin from New Delhi wants to be a writer. Being world wide, the web has opened up freelance writing opportunities to English speakers everywhere. This is of particular benefit to people living in countries with good internet service and a lower cost of living than the U.S. who speak and write excellent conversational English.

If I were an American retiree living in such a place, I would be all over these work from home opportunities. Freelance writing employment might be a way to finance your retirement to someplace warm and cheap!

If you go to each of the aforementioned websites and look at the freelancer profiles, you can get an idea of what experienced content writers charge.

More importantly, you can see how much they made over the past year. Their rates begin at $10 per hour and rise to $50 per hour. With sufficient skill, speed, and experience; freelance writing employment can provide you with a comfortable income.
